In 1835 Alicia accompanied her family to Australia. Her convict father, Zachariah Shaw had been sentenced to transportation for life following his conviction for forgery.

The family sailed on the convict ship "Royal Admiral" which arrived in Sydney on 22 Jan 1835.

As a convict Zachariah and his family were well documented. A detailed description of all the family is recorded. Alicia is described as:
